George Joseph Zafereo Jr., 52, of Victoria, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999.

He was born Feb. 3, 1947, in Victoria, to Welhelmina Grahmann Zafereo and the late George J. Zafereo Sr. He was a deputy for the Victoria County Sherriff Department for the past 5 years.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Mr. Zafereo had previously retired from Schlumberger in Houston after 24 years as an electrical technician. While in Houston, he was very involved in the Boy Scouts where his son earned the Eagle Scout award. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

Survivors: wife, Kathy Barnard Zafereo; son, Jason Alan Zafereo of Irving; sisters, Mary Louise Heinrich and Roberta Jo Zafereo, both of Victoria, Barbara Greeley of Pearland, Margaret Blair of Nederland and Carolyn Thompson of Batesville, Ark.; and brothers, Mark Zafereo, Jerry Zafereo and Charles Zafereo, all of Victoria and Joe Zafereo of San Antonio.

A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at Holy Family Catholic Church. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Greg Korenek officiating.

Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of VFW, DAV, CWV, American Legion and the Marine Corp League. Rosewood Funeral Chapels, Victoria, 573-4546.

Pallbearers: Joe Zafereo, Mark Zafereo, Mark Zafereo Jr., Jerry Zafereo, James Zafereo, Charles Zafereo, Ryan Zafereo and James Barnard.

Honorary pallbearers: Mr. and Mrs. John Kozel, Jason Kozel, Brian Kozel, Dr. and Mrs. Richard Jaeckoe and Judy, all nieces and nephews, Kyle Koenig, Chris Driver, Sheriff Mike Ratcliff and all employees and officers of Victoria County Sheriff's office, Pat Barnard and all honorary members of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made St. Joseph High School, Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund.
