Serving as pallbearers were Henry Grawunder, Harold Remmert, Herman Zander, Marvin Ulcak, Wilroy Peschel and Milford Gross. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Bellville VFW Post 6522. Ben Zajicek was born on August 6, 1909 in New Ulm, Texas to parents John and Katherine (KOVAR) Zajicek. He was raised in the Nelsonville area and attended Nelsonville and Oak Hill Public Schools. On February 18, 1945 he married the former Miss Evelyn POMIKAL in Bellville. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After returning home, he worked for Mosher Steel Co. as a Structural Fitter for almost 30 years. In 1969, he was very honored to join the Bellville VFW Post #6522 with his son, Larry. The first Father-Son duo to join at the same time. He was also a member of the Nelsonville-Bleiblerville SPJST [Lodge 201]. Mr. Ben Paul Zajicek died on March 17, 2001 in Bellville. Ben is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Zajicek; daughter, Jo Ann Remmert of Bellville; son, Larry Zajicek and wife Diane of Deer Park; sisters, Marie Huff of Bellville, and Ella Lehmann of Austin; grandchildren, Kristi Remmert, Amy Willhite and husband Grady, Kelli Remmert, Heather Miles, and Kevin Remmert; a number of nieces, nephews and special friend Marvin ULCAK; 2 little special friends Jordon and Brady ZAPALAC, who sent him candy on special days; and special neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Wilroy Peschel and family. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Katherine Zajicek; sisters Toni Ueckert and Angela Riechle; brothers John Zajicek Jr., William Zajicek, and Edwin Zajicek.
