The Banner Press Internet edition Aug 15, 2001 Mrs. Zwernemann was born Oct. 7, 1915, in Carmine, to Willie J. and Lina Knebel Priebe. She was baptized Oct. 15, 1916, by Pastor John Harder and was confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 13, 1930, in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine by Pastor Henry Brunotte. Mrs. Zwernemann attended Carmine school. On Oct. 16, 1938, she was married to Melvin Zwernemann in Martin Luther Lutheran Church by Pastor Brunotte. Mrs. Zwernemann was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine, where she was a member of the church orchestra, senior choir and served as organist. She was also a charter member of the Women’s Missionary Society (now the Mary Group). Mrs. Zwernemann was a member of the Quade-Werchan Ladies Auxiliary and Carmine Lions Club. Mrs. Zwernemann spent her entire life in Carmine. For many years, she wrote a column for The Banner-Press and the Fayette County Record. Her family was very special to her, and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Survivors include her husband, Melvin Zwernemann of Carmine; son and daughter-in-law, James and Pauline Zwernemann of Cedar Creek; daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Ray Ullrich of Austin; daughter-in-law and her husband, Kathryn and A.V. Carroll of Burton; grandchildren, Geoffrey Ullrich, Emily Ullrich, Scott and Crystal Zwernemann, Lisa and Randy Dobias, Kristina and Den Newton and Cody Carroll; great-grandchildren, Mallory and Addison Dobias and Trevor and Jordyn Zwernemann; and sister, Myrtle Gruchalla of Houston. She was preceded in death by a baby daughter in infancy on Nov. 3, 1941; son, Ross Wayne Zwernemann, age 27, on Jan. 11, 1975, following a hang glider accident in Phoenix, Ariz.; her parents; a brother, Charles Priebe; and a sister, Ella Noak. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m., in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine, with Pastor Paul Bohot officiating. Burial will be in Carmine Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton today from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Scott Zwernemann, Randy Dobias, Den Newton, Geoffrey Ullrich, Cody Carroll and Elgene Schulle. Honorary pallbearers will be Jean Schulle; grandchildren, Lisa Dobias, Crystal Zwernemann, Kristina Newton and Emily Ullrich; nieces, Becky Gruchalla, Charlene Lopez and Betsy Gruchalla; and nephews, Rudy Lopez and Mike Gruchalla.
