Important
Papers of Prominent Texians:
W.
C. & Frances Mayhugh Holden's Papers 1836-1989;
The Holdens
were prominent West Texas Educators and authors, their
subjects were pioneer life , cattle industry, archeaology,
indians, cowboys, local history, ect. Their papers are
in the
Texas Tech's
Southwest Collections and Special Collection Library in
Lubbock Texas. worth checking for other references.
Hampton,
Howard (John Howard), 1898-1967- An Inventory of
His Papers, 1659-1957 and undated, at the SouthwestCollection/Special
Collections Library.
Hampton was
a native born Texas Rancher, operating his own ranch
at Clarksville then became director of ranch operations
for the famous 6666
ranch whose
headquarters is presently in King co seat of Guthrie.
He was in charge of their Slaton, Lubbock Co. Texas
dividison then Tucumcari, New Mexico. From 1956-1958,
he served as president of West Texas Museum Association.
Hampton donated extensive Indian and western collections
to area museums before his death in Tucumcari in 1967.
A large part
of the collection deals with letters and correspondence
relating to Hampton's ancestors, some of which extending
back to 1675. It also contains land deeds, inventories,
newspaper articles, photographs, and family letters
collected by Hampton's uncle, Dr. Joseph L. Miller of
Thomas, West Virginia.
