H. Davis Dies in Veterans
Hospital
Relatives from
roaring Springs attended funeral services for H.
Davis, longtime resident
of Portales, N. M., Sunday, Nov. 17.
He was a son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Davis of Roaring Springs.
Mr. Davis,
76, died at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 1968, in the
Veterans Hospital in Amarillo.
He was born in Iredell, Texas, Aug. 26,
1892, and lived in the Roaring
Springs area in the late 1920's and
early '30s during which
time he worked for the Matadors. He was a
World War I veteran and
a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Funeral services
were held at the Immanuel Baptist Church and
burial was in the Portales
Cemetery.
Survivors include
his wife, the former Thelma Othella Reeves, of
Portales; a son, H. L. Jr.,
of Lovington, N. M.; a daughter, Mrs. Othella
Faye Wright of St. Louis,
Mo.; three brothrs, Lee of Cleburne, Joe of
Carlsbad, N. M., and Earnest
Davis of Roaring Springs; five sisters,
Kate Goodnight of San Jose,
Calif., Mrs. Bessie Saulcy of Hereford,
Mrs Maldie Forest of Lubbock,
Mrs. Allie Lawrence of Atoka, Okla.,
and Mr. Gracie Lee Ballard
of Arkansas.
Those attending
the funeral from Roaring Springs included Mrs.
Jimmie McCleskey, Mrs. James
Smith, Mrs. L. A Mullins and C. W. Davis.
