Organized in 1887 and carved from Presidio Presidio County, Brewster County is the largest
county in the state of Texas. Larger than the state of Connecticut, this county is
 situated in the Big Bend area of western Texas. The county seat is Alpine.
The county was named for Henry P. Brewster, Secretary of War.
