LaJitas derived its name from the Spanish term meaning "little flags" and refers to the flat rocks of the Boquillas Formation, which are found in the area. LaJitas is located in the extreme southwestern portion of Brewster Count along the Rio Grande. This is the site of the old San Carlos crossing of the Comanche Trail. About 1900, Lajitas was designated as a substation port of entry under the Customs Office of El Paso. Disturbed conditions along the Rio Grande had provoked the sending of the United States troops into the Big Been and a substation out of Camp Marfa was established in Lajitas. There are only six marked graves in the cemetery, but there are may graves located in the small cemetery with badly weathered wooded crosses. Much vandelism has taken place in the cemetery through the years. This survey was taken in March 1985.
