Brown Co. Courthouse, Brownwood, Texas

Located about one and and a half miles east of the current courthouse, the county's first courthouse was a log building built erected about 1856. The site was not suitable because no water could be found that was drinkable, so the building was moved.
The building was enlarged in 1865 to form a two-story structure. The second floor served as the Masonic Hall. When title to the land became a question, the courthouse was moved again, to its present location.
The current building is the fourth to be used by the county. Completed in 1917, it cost the county $85,000.
