William Elliott Sims Family

Source: Wayne Sims <>, July 2002

The family of Wm. Elliot Sims came to America from England/Scotland via the Carribbean (Antigua), then Virginia, before and after 1700 to SC, NC, then into Eastern Tennessee, where their family grew.

During the Civil War, Elliot was a Union Soldier, and had, like almost everyone in that part of America, family who were on the both sides.

After the war, he and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Keeler, from another Appalachian settler family, loaded up, along with Proffitts, Keelers, Bakers, and probably others, and came to Texas. The men traveled by wagon, walking, and horseback while most of the women and children boarded boats on the Mississippi River around New Orleans and were met by the men somewhere near Galveston. Then I guess, they all walked to Central Texas Hill Country; most of them arriving here in the late 1870`s.
