Andrew Jackson Stewart was born 14 Jun 1835 in Pickens County, South Carolina, to Abraham Stewart and Nancy Anderson. He was the third of 12 children. He enlisted 18 Jan 1862, Camp Hampton, SC, by Capt. Stewart for period of 12 months. He married Nancy Lucinda Hinkle in 1856 in Pickens County, South Carolina, and they had 12 children. After the war, the family moved to Boone County Arkansas and homesteaded several hundred acres. Andrew and wife Lucinda and some of their children later moved to Callahan County, Texas, where he operated a small farm. He died there in 1897 and is buried in the Admiral Cemetery. |
