  • Winnie Zimmerman, a soldier from Camp Robinson, Arkansas, spent a few of the holidays here visiting his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Matt Zimmerman. Burnet Bulletin, 1 Jan 1942
  • Mr. and Mrs. Matt Zimmerman received a message Monday from their son, Winnie, saying that he was safe in Australia and that everything was fine. Winnie has been in the army several months and his last visit home was Christmas, when he remained only a day or two. The last word from him previous to Monday's message was from Panama, several weeks ago. Burnet Bulletin, 12 March 1942
  • fighting under General MacArthur in Australia. Burnet Bulletin, 11 June 1942
  • A letter to his folks, Australia, May 14, 1942.
...I am just fine, we have a fine place to sleep and real good food, we don't have to work hard, and are not in any kind of danger, so there is nothing for you all to worry about, we get a paper everyday and the way things look the war is going our wayÉWe have a show here and can go every night. I have seen most of the pictures they have here, but I go just to pass away the time. They also have a P.X. where we can buy most anything we want, and boy we sure do get a lot of good milk. We also have a church. It is real nice, and I go every time I can. Me and one of the boys ate dinner in town Sunday with a man and his wife, they were so nice...Pvt. Winfred Zimmerman, Co. D, 43rd Engra, APO 924 San Francisco CA. Burnet Bulletin, 18 June 1942
  • Mr. and Mrs. Matt Zimmerman of Buchanan Dam made the Bulletin a pleasant and appreciated visit last Saturday. They were happy over a letter they had just received from their son, Winnie, a soldier in the Southwest Pacific. The letter was written May 23rd and made remarkable good time from there to Burnet, considering the distance. He wrote that he had just received his Christmas gifts, most of which had been sent about eight months ago. The names of the donors had been worn from many of the packages, and it is impossible for him to know who sent them. For this reason, he cannot thank them individually, but he wants them to know that he certainly appreciated every gift and remembrance. Burnet Bulletin, 24 June 1943
