ALLEN, DR. GEORGE SCOTT
Burnet, Nov 16--(SC)--An example of ability and character plus a pleasing personality building success may be found in Dr. George Scott Allen, owner of the Allen Clinic and Hospital in Burnet.
A native Texan, Dr. Allen received hismedical degree at Tulane University in 1936.
After spending a year's internship in St. Paul's Hospital in Dallas, he joined Dr. Roy G. Loveless in Slaton. Eighteen months later he moved to Burnet.
His practice grew, but on March 10, 1941, he joined the Army. His professional ability began to show itself on his military record. Soon he was a graduate of the Medical Field Service School and then followed a certificate from the Command and General Staff Medical School.
Dr. Allen advanced to lieutenant colonel and was sent to Europe. He arrived in England and was given a rating of Complete Knowledge Officer and made the invasion landing in France. After four years and eight months of service he returned to Burnet and renewed his private practice.
He started out with a large plot of ground and a small five-room building in February, 1947. His practice prospered and soon he was required to add another room to the building. In fact, there has been a succession of rooms. Every time he would add another room which the thought he could use for an office, his patient list would also keep adding and soon a bed would be set up in the office and he would be left out in the hall.
At present he is adding 12 rooms and a large reception room. When the present construction work is completed this month, his clinic and hospital will contain 42 rooms, and it is completely equipped with X-ray facilities and laboratory.
While in the service, Dr. Allen commanded a unit of 70 medical officers and 700 enlisted men. Today, he is at the head of a staff consisting of Drs. John C. Kern, A. Church Wood and Sam H. Paschall. Erwin M. Murphy is laboratory technician, Nurse Cathryn C. Foster is superintendent and Ozora F. Young and Regina A. Hauck are the heads of his office staff. The staff is supported by five graduate nurses and 23 employees.
Dr. Allen is married and the father of four children, three sons and a daughter.
