about John Preston
Thomas who was an early pioneer of Burnet County. He's
posted a
descendancy
chart for Thomas' family and a
transcript
of a diary of his travel from Wayne County,
KY to Burnet County in 1855. John was an early school teacher in
Backbone Valley and Hamilton. Later he bacame a lawyer and was an
early District Judge in Burnet. John died in 1865 leaving his widow,
the former Amanda Melvina
Payne and 7 surviving children. He plans to add a
transcript of a school report written by 12 year old Leslie Jones, grandaughter of John
Preston Thomas and Amanda. This report was written about Amanda
Thomas and her experiences in early Burnet County days by young
Leslie in 1926.
