Nearly 30 prospective
members were on hand Friday afternoon for a charter-signing ceremony to
reinstitute a chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC)
in Burnet County.
The chapter, which was active from 1906 until 1928, is named in memory of Burnet County's famous Confederate General Adam R. Johnson. Among the applicants for membership in the reinstituted Gen. Adam R. Johnson Chapter were Jo Hammond, granddaughter of the general...and Sophia Olney Haynes, the only one of the prospective members who is actually the daughter of a Confederate soldier.
...local dues are $3 per year. ...In addition to the local
dues, members are required to pay $13, which is disbursed to the
organization with $4.50 as an initian fee, $3.50 for the general fund,
$2 for the certificate of membership and the remaining $3 going to the
division.
...Geneva Tetley is the incoming president...Registrar at the functiion was Dayne Benson Wright.
