You have a great website for Cass County. I just tapped into your African American suggestion page. I was so happy to see that. You have no idea how many dead ends I run into when tracing my roots.

My family Washingtons and Watsons, are African Americans from Cass Co. They resided in Marietta and surrounding areas.

A nice suggestion would be if you could find any African American Cemeteries and/or Church records. It would be good to know who were the Slave owning families and if they had deeds or wills listing. Also were there any African American Masonic Lodges. My grandfather was a mason and those traditions are usually passed through generations.

If you have any information that may be helpful let me know. If there is anything you may be looking for in Houston, let me know.

Dana's on-line database with her family and other Cass County Collected families.  I can not stress how important it is to check this database for your Cass County relatives.  Most of my personal census & cemetery work goes into this database.  Because some of the names in this database are compiled from these records... a female may be listed under her married name if her maiden name was not known.
