Old Cass Co. Queries
sent in by United States Snail Mail

There are no e-mail addresses attached to these queries, and I do not have
permission to post the names, so they have been removed. This is just the
first of many to come, so there will be a series of several years, ranging
from 1970 to 1999, and in no particular order. Many of the old addresses
will no longer be any good.

HAMRICK, ELLIOTT, WINTER
Need information on Hamrick, Elliott and Winter families who came from
Alabama to Bowie/Cass/Morris County area in the late 1830's and early 1840's.
Estate Administration papers of Nancy Hamrick (d. 1853), widow of Joseph
Hamrick (d. 1849), lists among her heirs: John W. Elliott, James H. Elliott,
William S. Elliott, Elizabeth (Elliott) Oats, and Lavina (McDaniel) Winter
Millsap. Madison County, Alabama 1830 census shows Andrew Elliott, Joseph
Hamrick, and Daniel Winter in adjoining households.

"I would like to add an e-mail address to a snail mail query that was submitted years ago. Can this be done? If so please use the address cleomm@sbcglobal.net. The query was filed by my sister Charlene Ferrell many years ago. Charlene is now deceased but I am actively researching these families.

BROWNING
I am searching for information on James A. D. Browning, born 1837, where in
Georgia? He was killed by railroad train, (possibly Kansas City Southern) in
1907 in Cass County, Texas. He and his family listed on Cass 1880 census.
Wife, Sarah E., born 1839, Georgia, died 1916, Cass County, Texas. Who were
her parents? Where in Georgia did they come from?

McBRIDE

Need info concerning "LIT" McBride (MacBide), who settled around Atlanta or
Marshal, Texas in middle 1800's. Thought to have several wives and children
- John D, Anna, Tom, Jake, and George.
John Daniel was born 1861 in Texas.
By 1900, he is listed on the Arkansas census. "Lit" was staying with John D.
in arkansas at the time of his death. He is buried in an unmarked grave at
Caney Cemetery, Morris Community in Nevada Co., AR.
Need names and dates to wives and children. Also places of residence in
Texas.

LUMMUS
I can find very little information on Nicholas Welch Lummas after he married
Fannie Mattox in 1901. They lived in Cass County. Where was Fannie Mattox
from? Where did they live after marriage? Did they have children? Where did
either live at time of death? Is there anyone working on the Mattox family
history?

BROWN
Looking for the family of Alfred Brown who married Martha B. Kennedy. Her
mother was Sally Kennedy. Also the family of A. J. Solcum who married Ann
Brown, daughter of Alfred Brown. The Solcums moved to Jefferson, Tx. The
Browns first lived in Miller Co., AR, then moved to Queen City, Tx.

GARREN, PINKERTON, AKIN
Seeking information on David & Christine (Garren) Pinkerton. Where are they
buried? She died sometime after April 1874. He was living with a daughter,
Mrs. Collin M. (Lucinda) Akin in Bowie Co. Sept 1878, as he deeded her some
land in Cass Co. Recorded in Linden, TX courthouse. They had a 20 year old
son on the 1850 census who apparently died or moved away before 1860 census.

COLLOM, LOREK, LORCK, WILSON, SHEPHERD, HUNT
Seeking information on the family of my great great Uncle John M. Collom, son
of George Collom. John had headrights in Bowie Co and Cass Co. Texas. He
died on 1838. His widow, Cintha Ann Lorek (Lorck?) then married James
Willson and lived in Bois D'ark, Hempstead Co. Arkansas, according to 1850
census. There were tow additional children, Joseph (Joshua) W. )Wilson) and
Hester (Esther) Ann Collom.
Collom married Amanda Shepherd in Bastrop Co. Texas in 1857 and were later
in Stephens, Scurrym & Stonewall Co. Ark. In 1854, but did not sign as an
heir of John Collom in 1857, Cass County deed transaction, therefore she may
have died prior to Sept. 1857. Son's James ( L. or S.) Collom and George R.
Collom were married in 1857 but have yet to find their wives surnames. Also
have yet to find them in 1860 and later year census. There were Collom's in
Hempstead Co. AR in 1880's, 1890's, and early 1900's, and these are probably
the descendents.

Dana's on-line database with her family and other Cass County Collected families.  I can not stress how important it is to check this database for your Cass County relatives.  Most of my personal census & cemetery work goes into this database.  Because some of the names in this database are compiled from these records... a female may be listed under her married name if her maiden name was not known.
