Welcome to Castro County, Texas. This site is part of the TXGenWeb project, and it's purpose is to help people who are researching genealogy and local history in Castro County. My name is Cynthia Samples and I am the County Coordinator. Thanks to Kathy Wayman for all the work she has done, and I hope we can continue to add helpful information. I do not live in Castro County and do not have access to any resources, so I am going to ask your help. If you have any information that you believe would be beneficial to researchers, I would like to hear from you Castro County is located in the western Panhandle on the Texas High Plains. The county was named for Henri Castro, the empresario who was consul general to Paris for the Republic of Texas. Castro county, Texas was created August 21, 1876 from Bexar District and organized in 1891. County seat is Dimmitt.
