FAST FACTS FOR NUECES  COUNTY RECORDS

Vital Statistics-The first birth officially recorded in Nueces County was in 1903.  If you seek documentation of one before then, your best recourse is church records, wills, or family Bible records.  (See church page and GenConnect Bible link.)
If you need a birth record from the 1900s, or a death certificate,  the request should be made to

City/County Health Department, Office of Vital Statistics, 1702 Horne Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78416

The cost is $11.00 for a birth certificate and $9.00 for a death certificate.

For an inquest, in the case of  death by suspicious or undetermined cause, there is no charge for the report, but the request must be from a family member, and for a date after 1950.

Obituaries-The Caller-Times only files obits for six months.   Their online archive begins in 1998.  The Local History-Genealogy Room of the Corpus Christi Public Library has microfilm of the newspapers from 1883, and  most obits from 1860 indexed except for only a few for the 1870s.

Requests may be made to either the library or through the website, but must be specific, not just "any info on..."

We can always use volunteers, for lookups and requests, as well as transcribing.
