William Stevens FREEMAN was born 15 Apr 1838, in Illinois. He and his family moved to the Mercer Colony, Texas in 1846 and located their claim one mile due north of Alexander WEBB. Mary Ann received 640 acres of land in Dallas Co. on 18 May 1850. Duck Creek crosses their land, north/west to south/east, almost in the middle of their property. He traveled with his widowed mother, Mary Ann _______ FREEMAN and one sibling, Catherine. Mary Ann was born in Tennessee, on 19 Oct 1811. William entered the service of the Confederate States of America, where he served for four years. Upon his release from duty, he came home to Dallas Co. and was wed to his first wife, Susannah "Susan" Jane COATS on 8 Mar 1864 in Dallas Co. Susannah was born to James Albert COATS and Mary Ann "Polly" PARKS on 30 Jun 1844 in Tennessee. The COATS' were residents of Scyene, Dallas Co. Eight children were born to William and Susannah, they are as follows;

In 1890, Susannah passed away, and William remarried, to Josie_________. While Josie was pregnant with twins, she and the babies passed away. William was then wed to Sarah DAVIS and they had one child. In 1895(abt.), Sarah passed away, and William was wed to Mrs. Sally J. LOCKE in 1896, they had seven children. William was a member of Sterling Price Camp, United Confederate Veterans and also a member of the Masonic Fraternity. His occupation was a Grocery Store Owner, in the neighboring town of Rylie and he served as the Justice of the Peace for seventeen years. In the early morning hours of 21 Jan 1906, William passed away in his home in Mesquite.
