A. J. (DOVIE) RAWLINGS Funeral services for Mrs. A. J. (DOVIE) RAWLINGS, 87, were held Wednesday, May 18, at 4 p.m. from Bronte First Methodist Church. Rev. BOB GRIMES, pastor, and Rev. TRAVIS MCNAIR, pastor of Robert Lee First Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery at Bronte under direction of Clift Funeral Home. Pallbearers were BILL SIMPSON, MARVIN SIMPSPM, Jr., JOE RAWLINGS, W. D. MCDONALD, D. K. GLENN and RANDALL MEADOR. Mrs. Rawlings died at 10 p.m. Monday, May 16, in Bronte Hospital where she had been a patient for over a year. She is survived by one son, ALBERT RAWLINGS, Bronte; two daughters, Mrs. MARVIN SIMPSON, Robert Lee and MRS. RALPH LEWIS, Tuscon, AZ; 7 grand- children, 11 great grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces. Another daughter, MRS. LUCY WARNER of Tempe, Arizona, died earlier this year from injuries received when she was struck by an automobile. Mrs. Rawlings was born Oct. 22, 1872 at Austin, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. N. A. NORTON. Mr. Norton was a pioneer stage coach superintendent. Mrs. Rawlings could recall stage coach travel through this area during Indian times, making numerous such trips when she was a child. She was married to Albert J. Rawlings Feb. 2, 1894 at Burnet, Texas, where she was a public school teacher. The couple moved to Coke County in 1904, when they bought the present Rawlings ranch southwest of Bronte. Mr. Rawlings died in May, 1934. Mrs. Rawlings was a long time member of the Bronte First Methodist Church, where she taught an adult Sunday School Class for over 30 years.
