Newsletter

The Collin County Genealogical Society Newsletter is published five times a year and features news of interest to Society members. Special events, research tips, news of general genealogy interest and news concerning the Society and its membership are among some of the information published in the award winning newsletter. The CCGS Roster is published on an annual basis and features member's contact information along with the surnames members are researching.

Pioneer Families Project: Individuals proving descent from settlers arriving in the county between 1846-1865 are eligible for the First Families of Collin County certificate. For those whose ancestors did not arrive until after the Civil War, but before the turn of the century, they are eligible for the Reconstruction Families of Collin County. Anyone proving direct or collateral descent from a Collin County resident may apply. Collateral descent must be through a brother or sister of the early county resident. For more information contact Paula Perkins at ccgs.pioneers@gmail.com, or print out application forms (Adobe Acrobat required). Certificates are suitable for framing. Candidates need not be a member of CCGS to apply.


The following new books have been donated to CCGS by the compiler, Joyce Martin Murray. Proceeds from the sale of these items are used to purchase materials for the genealogy section of W.O. Haggard, Jr. Library. The price per book is $10.00 plus 8.25% sales tax for Texas residents and S&H $3.50 per book.   • Logan County Deed Abstracts, Kentucky 1792-1813: Covers books D, E, F, and G. 127 pages of abstracts. Contains approximately 1650 surnames, 157 slave names and 460 place names. 8x11" paperback.
  • Logan County Deed Abstracts, Kentucky 1813-1819: Contains approximately 1860 surnames, 180 slave names and 450 place names. 8x11" paperback.
  • Hawkins County, Tennessee Deed Abstracts 1801-1819: 154 pages, 8x11" paperback. 23 page index contains 4,000 plus surnames and place names. "Hawkins was formed 1786 from Sullivan County, Tennessee, which had been created from Washington County, Tennessee, as formed in 1777, and which covered the entire state of Tennessee, and was formed by the State of North Carolina. In Spencer County. After 1790 Hawkins was part of a Territory governed by Blount and was one of the of the counties acting in the Constitutional Convention in 1796. Hawkins County originally covered parts of Hamblen, Grainger, Hancock, Claiborne, Campbell, Union, Anderson, Jefferson, Knox, Roan, Rhea and Hamilton Counties."
