                      County to fly flags at half-staff to honor Farias

NEW BRAUNFELS — Flags outside Comal County Courthouse and other county offices will be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday and Thursday in tribute to U.S. Marines Lance Cpl. John F. Farias of New Braunfels, county officials said Tuesday.

Farias, 20, a 2009 Canyon High School graduate, lost his life in a firefight on June 28 in Afghanistan.

LCpl. John Felix Farias, USMC, age 20, of New Braunfels, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 while serving in Afghanistan.
He was born to Felix Farias and Penny (Scarbrough) Farias in Houston, Texas on July 16, 1990. He enjoyed sports and was active in Cougar Football and power-lifting at Canyon High School, where he graduated in 2009. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of Tree of Life Church.
He is survived by his loving parents, Felix Farias and Penny Farias of New Braunfels; sister, Amy Marie Loremo of Fort Worth, Texas; numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents, Jesus and Guadalupe Farias; Maternal Grandparents, Eugene (Air Force) and Dorothy Scarbrough and Helen Stevens; Uncles, Lino Farias (Army KIA), Eliazar Farias (Marines), and Hollis Scarbrough (Navy).
Immediate family viewing will begin at noon Wednesday at Zoeller Funeral Home. Public visitation will begin at 2 p.m.  and will continue until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Tree of Life Church with Pastor Don Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. Reception will follow at Tree of Life.
