Bishop Joel Mann is the fourth child of Joel and Jimmie Sammon Mann born July 2, 1911 in Rusk County. At the age of 1, he sang "Oh the Blood Have Signed My Name". He joined Zion Hill Baptist Church in his youth.March 28, 1936, he married Iris Lee Washington. They wee married 52 years and 4 months.
Bishop Mann received the baptism of the Holy Ghost under the leadership of Rev. S.R. Roberts at Hopewell Baptist Church of Petersburg, Texas. He was called into the ministry under the leadership of Rev. O.W. Gentry of Friendship Baptist Church of Becton, a small community north of Idalou, Texas in 1951. He became the Pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in 1953. He organized the Friendship Holy Baptist Church, Incorporation, July 25, 1972.
The purpose for which the organization was founded was to bring a closer relationship between God and man, and to save the soul of men. Holy was added to the Church's name to show that all men could be Holy regardless of the denomination.
Many ministers started their ministry under his leadership. There were 5 Pastors in the Friendship Holy Baptist, Incorporation.
Our beloved and faithful Pastor began his new life Thursday, August 25, 1988 at 5:15 a.m.
His survivors include his wife of 52 years and 4 months, Mrs. Iris Lee Mann; one daughter, Bobbie Doris Ford (Eddie); one son, Nathaniel, both of Dallas, Texas; reared three nieces, Nell Frances Gee of Abilene, Texas, Geraldino Holmes (Clinton) of Tyler, Texas, and Alveria Robinson (Lonnell) of Englewood, Colorado; one nephew, Tommy Troy Bean of Lubbock, Texas; three brothers: Elder Roy Mann (Charlia Mae), Claude Mann, and Supt. Forrest Rayfos Mann (Leo Mae); two sisters, Zelner Lewis and Azelene Hendrix, all of Lubbock, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, riends, the Friendship Holy Baptist Church Family, and others.
