
Services for Bessie Sherwood Haltom, 106, of Crosbyton was at 2 p.m. Saturday (1/19/02) at First United Methodist Church in Crosbyton with the Rev. Bob Kelley officiating.Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
She died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002.
She was born Nov. 18, 1895, in Ryan, Indian Territory, Okla., and married V.R. Haltom on Aug. 6, 1915, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He died Dec. 23, 1966. She moved from Oklahoma to Texas as a child and was a graduate of Childress High School. She and her late husband moved to Crosbyton in 1918, where they farmed for many years.
She belonged to two Forty Two clubs and was a charter member of the Needlepoint Club. She was a homemaker and a former clerk at T. George´s Dry Goods, Campbell Dry Goods and Wallace Dry Goods.
She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Crosbyton, the Missionary Society and the Wesleyan Guild. She was awarded the Silver Life membership to United Methodist Women for women of 100 years.
Two sons, Ray in 1972 and Henry in 1994, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Faye Hodges of Crosbyton; two sisters, Helen Crews of Lubbock and Janet Wright of Childress; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
