V.R. Haltom Dies; Rites Set
CROSBYTON (Special) - V. R. Haltom, 82, who was struck by a vehicle here Thursday, died at 1:05 p.m. Friday in Crosbyton County Clinic.Services will be conducted today at 3 p.m. in First Methodist Church with the Rev. Lee Crouch, pastor, officiating, who will be assisted by the Rev. Wilbur Gaede of Silverton. Burial will be in the Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of King Funeral Home.
According to the highway patrol, Haltom was walking northward across U.S. Highway 82 at Emerald Street in Crosbyton about 5:25 p.m. Thursday. He was struck by a pickup truck, driven by William T. Barnett, 62, also of Crosbyton.
The pickup was headed west, the patrol reported.
Born in Pension Station, Tenn., Haltom, a retired farmer, had lived here the past 48 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Bess; one daughter, Mrs. Harold Hodges of Crosbyton; two sons, Ray of Lubbock and Henry of Dumas; one brother, Earl of Electra; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Wright of Wichita Falls; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
