Services for Verna Edith Gillespie, 93, of Lubbock were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 1997, in Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cleve Haley, pastor of Oakwood Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial was in Lorenzo Cemetery.

She died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, in Methodist Hospital.

She was born in Collinsville. She moved to Lubbock from Lorenzo in 1987. She was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist church. She married Fred Gillespie on May 16, 1935, in Tioga. He died Dec. 13, 1983. A son, L. C., died in 1980.

She was a cook at several Lorenzo restaurants.

Survivors include a son, W. R. of Pilot Point; two daughters, Alice Riddle of Lubbock and Gladys Thrasher of Merced, CA; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
