Letter from TX PFC John H. Carr, 34 Inf., 24 Inf. Div. World War II
The following is a letter from Pvt. John H. (Sleepy) Carr to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.H. Carr.
Dear Folks:
Guess you are wondering where I am, and if you have guessed very hard, you probably guessed it. Yes, I am in the Philippines. I was in the first wave, The Assault Wave. Well, I thought about a lot of things the first few minutes after I hit the beach. I got penned down by a sniper.
Then I made another beachhead about four or five days ago. I have just gotten back from spending sixteen days in the front lines. I hope I never get in some of the spots I have been in again.
Well, this is all the paper I have so this will have to do for all of you until I get my other stuff. I am O.K.
I will write more later and write some of the others then. I have a Japanese battle flag that I will send home as soon as I can.
Write often.
Love, Sleepy.
