Elisha H. Gambell was born 10 of Jan. 1808
in Williamson Co., Tennessee. He was the son of Milton Gambell and his wife
Temperance Howell.
Elisha married Sarah Ann Hendricks the 26th of
April, 1842 and he passed away in 1890 and is buried in the Masonic
Cemetery at Mt. Pleasant, Texas. They had nine Children.

Sarah Ann passed away 15 Dec. 1859 in Texas
and is buried in Marshall, Texas.
Elisha H Gambell remarried Mary Elizabeth
Bartholamen who was a widow with two young children to provide for and
Elisha had nine so this was said to be a marriage of convenience.
Elizabeth and Elisha had eight more children. Mary is said to have passed
away between 1869 and 1870. Elisha moved to Titus Co. to the town of Mt.
Pleasant where he met and married Amanda Panther. This marriage produced
four children. Several of them died young.
Elisha H. Gambell hauled freight from Arkansas
to Hickory Hill (now Avinger) Texas. This was said to be for the army. He
made canon balls to be used in the Civil War and up until maybe 1980 the
old cannon ball maker he used was in the Jordan Furniture Store in Hughes
Springs, Texas. This store is now closed and no one can tell me where the
Cannon Ball Maker is at this time but we hope it is in a museum somewhere
down near or Hughes Springs, Texas where the furniture store was located
at that time.
Elisha H, Gambell could have been a wealthy man
if the South had won the war. He had bought up a trunk full of Confederate
money but needless to say he ended up a rather poor man.
Elisha H. was the son of Milton Gambell and
Temperance Howell.
