"Uncle Hughey" Carbarrie dies in Afton Monday"

Hughey Carbarrie, or "Uncle Hughey" as he was known to all those who knew him, passed away March 1, 1948 at the home of his sister in Afton.

Mr. Carbarrie was born in Sheboyagan County, Wisconsin, August 11, 1856. In 1887 his family moved to Cedar Hill, Dallas County, Texas. At that time Dallas was a small town and he was engaged in the livery-stable business. When the street cars took place of the horse and buggy he went into the planing-mill business.

On April 4, 1893, he married Miss Bessie McKilden, who preceded her husband in death on May 25, 1923.

For the past twenty years, he has made his home with his sister, Mrs. Rosie Stark in Afton, Texas.

Interment was in the Afton Cemetery with a Matador Funeral home in charge. Pallbearers were: Joe Tom Jackson, Demps Clifton, Jim Spikes, Burnett Haney, John Offield, and J.W. Lawrence. Honoraray pallbearers were: Lester Varnell, Buch Potrich, Lewis Brown, Gaston Jackson, Jesse Powell and F.L. Byres.

Mr. Carbarrie is survived by his sister, Mrs. Rosie Stark, and a number of nephews and nieces.

Among those attending the funeral were Mr. And Mrs. J.P. Johnson of San Angelo, M/M G.R. Stark of Elton, M/M L.J. Fullengim of Afton, M/M Luther Stark of Spur, and Mrs. Cecil Southland of Temple, Texas.
