Born July 31, 1852, Jefferson, Titus County, Texas, William Gilpin was the postmaster and founder of Gilpin, Tx. W.B. Gilpin married Mary Emma Burford May 5, 1881. She was born August 12, 1862 in Ringgold, Georgia. They came to Dickens County in 1908 to visit their daughter, Lee. W.B. bought an acre of land from Poet Hagins and built a false front building. This was their home, a trading post, and later a post office.

Their children were Lee Elizabeth (1882-1957), John Riley (1885-?), Rush Thomas (1887-1979),Elbert Granville (1890-?), Willie Mae(1894-1982), and George Ansom(1896-1956).

William Bond Gilpin died June 12, 1912 and Mary Emma October 4, 1933.
