R.T. Alley Funeral Rites
R. T. Alley died of a heart attack at 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 18. R. T., widely known early day cowboy, was better known to his friends as Bob. Mr. Alley was stricken at his home near Lampasas.
Funeral services were held at the Briggs and Gamble Funeral Home in Lampasas and then the body was brought to Dickens for burial. Burial rites were held by Rev. H. T. Harris, pastor of the Whiteflat Baptist Church. Rev. Harris is a brother-in-law of Mr. Alley. Pallbearers were Gilbert Keith of Whiteface, Charlie Keith, D. P. Keith and Marvin Patton of Dickens, all brother-in-law´s of Mr. Alley and Rev. Clifford Harris of Tahoka.
Robert Thomas Alley was born in Gonzales, Texas, on January 29, 1884 and died July 18, 1955. He came to Motley County in 1907 where he was employed for several years by the Matador Ranch. In a ceremony held in Matador on January 1910, he was married to Miss Sue Keith. The couple had one daughter, Sue Carrie. His wife preceded him in death in December 1914.
He was married to Miss Anna Reynolds of Dickens in December 1917, and she too, preceded him in death in March 1940.
Prior to moving to Motley county, Mr. Alley had been employed on the Mill Iron Ranch in Hall county. Shortly after his first marriage, he returned to the Matador Ranch and become one of the wagon bosses. In August of 1942 he was married to the former Grace Holland of Lamesa. They lived in Matador about three months before moving to Lampasas.
Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Sue Carrie Alley of Chickasha, OK; one step-daughter, Mrs. C. M. Adams of Lampasas; two sisters, Mrs. O. I. Littlefield of Leesville, TX and Mrs. Mae Martin of George West, TX; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. S. B. Alley of Alice, TX. He is also survived by 49 grandchildren.
Interment was in the Dickens cemetery with Campbell´s Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
