McADOO (Special) — Services for Marshall "Joe" Winegar, 75, of The Colony, were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at First United Methodist Church in McAdoo with the Rev. Edward Barkowsky officiating.

Burial followed in McAdoo Cemetery under direction of Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel of Midland.

He died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, in The Colony.

He was born Aug. 19, 1924, the son of Ambrose and Lizzie Winegar. He married Mary Emma Pipkin on Dec. 3, 1942, worked at farming and odd jobs before being employed at Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University). He worked as director of the Addressograph, Mail Services and the Mimeograph Department and the Security area.

At Texas Tech, he founded and sponsored the Saddle Tramps organization and was granted "lifetime member" status. He was also instrumental in the design and construction of the TTU entrance marker seal and fountain. He was a lifetime member and sponsor of Alpha Phi Omega.

In 1972, he was named "Man of the Year" at Texas Tech and was featured in the La Ventana yearbook. He was also a recipient of the "Top Techsan" award at the university. He served as a member and committee chairman in the National Association of Colleges and Business Organizations.

Upon his retirement from TTU in 1978, he and his wife moved to the Colony in the Metroplex where he was in the copier business for approximately 10 years.

He was a member of Yellowhouse Masonic Lodge of Lubbock. He belonged to the First United Methodist Church in The Colony and was preceded in death by his mother and father and four brothers, W.T. "Dub" Arlin, Thurston and Kelton Winegar.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Marshall Roy and wife, Louise Winegar of The Colony and Alvie Max and wife, Alice Winegar of Aledo; a daughter, Mary Sue and husband, Mike Goldwater of College Station; a sister, Obanetta and husband Lynn Newsome of Henderson; three sisters-in-law, Nellie Winegar of Crosbyton, Bill Winegar of Farmersville, and Callie Giesecke of Matador; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
