The first couple married in Dickens County was John N. Luce and Miss Zona Thomas at Espuela, Texas, on August 4th, 1891, married by A. J. McClain, County Judge; following them were, to wit:

All of the above licenses were issued at Espuela when the County Seat was there temporarily.

The first licenses issued after the County Seat was established at Dickens were Judge B. G. Worsewick and Mrs. Minnie Burk. They married March 22nd, 1891, just after the records were moved from Espuela. They were married by County Judge A. J. Hagins, elected County Judge. A. J. McClain was appointed County Judge when the County was organized but it was later decided that he lived in Kent County, therefore, he could not be County Judge. Since that time, there have been nearly five thousand marriage licenses issued. Some other old timers are, to-wit:
