Mr. Chandler rode the Matador range from his camp (which later he either filed or bought) to the Patton Springs pasture.
This range included the Chandler Flat country. Mr. Chandler supervised the building of the Chandler tanks which later were owned by R.C. Forbes, then bought by Frank Forbis. This was the only water for cattle in this area.
One day when I was at the Forbis Ranch Mr. Chandler rode up on a bay (50) horse, tied his horse to a tree near the windmill to get himself a drink. This was before R. C. Forbis bought the Matador section, west of the ranch house. Chandler told Bob that he had built his house on his own land, but the "outhouse" that he had built was on the Matador Ranch Land.
When in later years, Chandler Flats was being settled by new comers, a lane was fenced, running west from the Chandler section to the Dickens-Matador road at the Barr station. The Chandler school building was erected on the west side of this flat area naturally getting its name from Mr. Chandler.
Pete Chandler is buried in Roaring Springs cemetery. His marker reads:
