Services for Ray Karr, 91, of Dickens, were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2003 at First United Methodist Church in Spur with the Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Mr. Karr was buried on his birthday. Burial was in the Spur Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home of Spur.He died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, three days before his 92nd birthday. Mr. Karr was born March 28, 1911 in Medicine Mound to John Luther and Lula Puckett Karr. He graduated from Spur High School in 1929 and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University in 1936. He married Royce Blackwell in San Antonio in 1937.
Mr. Karr moved to Dickens County in 1992. Mr. Karr was active in civic organizations, such as the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Optimist Club, People Helping People and the Dairy Products Institute of Texas. Mr. Karr received the Dairy Products Institute of Texas Hall of Fame Award in 1990. He was also a member of the Texas-New Mexico Dairy Tech Association. In addition to these organizations he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Spur.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Ray Karr.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kay Moore of Soda Springs, a son, Don Karr of Dickens; a sister, Pauline Montogomery of Spur; five grandchildren, Jay Moore of Ft. Worth, Courtney Wilson of Ft. Smith, AR, Jody Karr-Silaski of Austin, Kalico Leech of Seymour and Kassidy Sherrill of Sugarland; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
