Charlie Simpson Kearney, 73, was killed about 6:45 Monday as he was crossing Highway 70 from his fireworks stand to his home.
He was struck by a pickup driven by Delton Roberts, Spur. He was killed instantly.
Rev. Norris Taylor, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiated. He was assisted by Cleston Pritchett. Services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church.
Born in Dallas County in 1893, Mr. Kearney came to Dickens County in 1916 from Snyder. Retired at his death, he had operated a service station in Spur for many years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church; Spur Masonic Lodge, a veteran of World War I and a member of the VFW. He was well known in this area.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Earnest Kearney, Spur; one grandson, Mike Kearney, Lubbock; seven sisters, Mrs. Walter Garrett, Farmington, NM; Mrs. Marvin Alexander, Spur; Mrs. Pearl Wells, Aspermont; Mrs. Jewel Rucker, Aspermont; Mrs. George Reagan, Stroude, Oklahoma; Mrs. Lewel Edmondson, Meeker, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Richard Hyatt, Clarendon.
Pallbearers included Dalton Lehew, Fred Neaves, Jay Austin, Buddy Wright, Tom Fields, Lloyd Hindman, Charlie Witt and Johnny Scudder.
Interment was in Spur Cemetery.
