Services for Eugene Debs Roberts, 79, were held January 17, at 3 p.m. in the Highway 70 Church of Christ with Richard Trull, minister, officiating.
Roberts died at his home on January 14, about 7:50 p.m. following a lengthy illness. Born April 15, 1908, in Jones County, he lived most of his life in Dickens County. He was bus mechanic for the Spur Independent School District.
He married Velma Hatfield on November 21, 1926, in Spur. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a former member of the Knights of Pythias.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Roberts, Spur; one son, Wayne Roberts, Spur; another son, Earnest Roberts, died in 1956; three sisters, Mell Edwards, Kate Sherman and Ruth Huber, all of California; three stepsisters, Minnie Byrd, Canyon; Jessie Thrasher, Alamogordo, NM and Dessie Swann, CA; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Services for Velma Roberts, 95, of Spur, were held, Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at Hwy. 70 Church of Christ with Bob Martin officiating. Burial followed in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
She died Saturday, January 1, 2005 in Crosbyton Hospital. Mrs. Roberts was born July 19, 1909 in Palo Pinto Co., Texas, to Charlie and Lula Lamb Hatfield. She grew up in the Kent and Dickens County area. She married Gene Roberts on Nov. 21, 1926, in Kent County. He preceded her in death January 14, 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of Hwy. 70 Church of Christ.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Charles and Ernest; four brothers and two sisters. She is survived y one son, Wayne Roberts of Spur, three sisters, Peggy Cox of Big Flat, Arkansas, Dorothy Flanagan of California and Bonnie Robinson of Modesto, CA, three grandchildren Linda Wright of Semmes, Alabama, Monica Washington of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and Bryan Roberts of Pflugerville, TX, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
