Dewey Lee Watson was born April 21, 1929 to Floy and Ouida Caviness Watson at home in he Red Hill Community, Dickens County. The oldest of four children. Dewey had two sisters, Zela and Glenda and one brother Charles.

Dewey grew up on the family farm seven miles East of Spur. When he was about fifteen the family bought another farm 2 1/2 miles North of Spur. Dewey attended Wilson Draw and Spur schools. He graduated from Spur High School. He attended Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas for three semesters before volunteering for the United States Navy on December 31, 1948.

Dewey received his basic training at the Naval Base in San Diego, CA. He served on the following duty on the West and East Coasts

Stationed in Norfork, VA 1963-69 at the Newport News Naval Shipyard. He served on the U.S.S. America Carrier for six years.

Obituary

U.S.Flag  Dewey Watson, 56, died at 6:25 a.m. Monday, October 7, 1985 at Humana Hospital in Abilene.

Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Melton Funeral Home Chapel, Breckenridge, with Rev. Fred Porter, First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was at 3 p.m. at Spur Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Darwin Cox, First Baptist Church, officiating.

Born April 21, 1929 in Spur to Floy and Ouida Watson, he married Joann Dwyer in 1952 in CA; she died in February 1962. He then married Jane B. Morgan April 14, 1979 in Austin, moving from Houston to Breckenridge in 1980, working for the City of Breckenridge. He also is a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sheila Marie Greensburg; granddaughter, 4 years, Sarah Greensburg; two sons, Kevin Lee and Collin Joseph Watson; one sister, Zella McKinney, Abilene; one brother, Charles Watson, Longview; mother, Ouida Huber; four step-children: one daughter, Cindy; three stepsons, Richard, Kirk and Mike Morgan.

Nephews served as pallbearers: Tommie, Ronnie and Randy Watson, of Fort Worth; Michael McKinney, Dallas; Kennie Tubbs,Abilene; Bennie Tubbs, Anson.

Spur VFW directed military services at graveside.
