Obituary

Joe Whitener SPUR (Special) - Services for Joe Bailey Whitener, 75, of Spur will be at 2:00 p.m. today in Campbell Funeral Home Chapel in Spur with the Rev. Eddie Allsup, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Spur Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home of Spur.

Whitener died at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital after a brief illness.

He was a native of Spur (note: This is wrong, he was born in Vernon, Texas - 27 July 1906, but his family moved to Spur when he was a child and he did live most of his life in Spur - jl) and lived most of his life in Spur. He married Clara Hood in 1942 in Fort Worth.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Bertha Jean Lingg of Tacoma, Wash; a stepson, George Brewer of Fort Worth; a sister Eula Mae (should be Uda Mae - jl) Russell of Eunice, LA; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Bradshaw, Jack Condron, Flip Fitzgerald, Levis Pullen, R. J. Bell, Don Condron and Dr. Bob Alexander.

SPUR (Special) - Services for Clara Bell Whitener, 93, of Spur will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Campbell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenney Kirk, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitener died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday in Lubbock's Methodist Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Mansfield and lived in Spur most of her life. She married Joe Bailey Whitener in 1942 in Fort Worth. He died in 1982. She was a homemaker and member of the First United Methodist Church. A son, George Brewer, died in 1986

Survivors include a sister, Mable Hale of Massachusetts; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
