Chas. G. Windham died at Home Here Friday

The entire community was shocked and saddened Friday of last week when it learned of the sudden death of Chas. G. Windham, pioneer rancher and cattleman of this section, at his home on Hill Street early in the afternoon. Mr. Windham had been in poor health for several years but his condition was not considered serious and death, which was attributed to heart failure, was entirely unexpected. He returned to his home shortly after noon from a trip down town stating to members of the family that he felt badly and death occurred before a doctor could be summoned.

Mr. Windham was born Sept. 20, 1867, near San Antonio later moving with his parents to Archer county. In the early 90's he came to West Texas locating in Kent County where he worked for the O--O Ranch. And it was here that he met and was married to Miss Maude Darden.

Twenty nine years ago Mr. And Mrs. Windham moved to Dickens County and have made their home here since that time, first engaging in the ranching business in the north part of the county, but for the past sixteen years been residents of this city. During the time that Mr. Windham has made his home in this city he has contributed greatly to all progressive movements and has made for himself a place in the community that will be impossible to fill.

During his career as a rancher, Mr. Windham was unusually successful acquiring large properties in this and other counties and is one of those who have helped in developing and building of West Texas.

Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. F.G. Rodgers, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The Masonic ritual was read and interment made in the Spur Cemetery. Campbell Funeral Directors in charge.

Surviving members of the family are Mrs. Windham and three daughters, Tallie and Jettie of this city and Mrs. Leo McIntyre of Salt Lake City, Utah.
