Colys Witt, 22 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Witt of Kalgary, died at the Nichols Sanitarium at Spur Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m. as a result of knife wounds received in an altercation at Crosbyton the previous morning. Colys was given surgical aid at Crosbyton and was rushed to the Nichols Sanitarium here where an operation was performed to stop internal hemorrhages. The young man received the injuries when a crowd gathered from that section to a trades day event in Crosbyton and young Witt and young Cross met in front of a drug store on the street. Reports are that Witt chided the Cross boy as a "girl fighter" and the fight starting in which he received his fatal wounds.
Jim Cross and his son, Jim, Jr. are being held jointly for Witt's death and charges will perhaps be preferred against them today.
Large crowds from Kalgary and other communities of the county attended the funeral today which was officiated by Rev. Wayne Grizzle at the First Baptist church at one o'clock this afternoon. Interment was made in the Spur cemetery following the services.
Colys was practically reared in this section and has innumerable friends and school mates who are deeply grieved to learn of his death. His parents, who are one of the most prominent families of the Kalgary community and their son was a young man who was highly respected and liked by all who knew him.
Surviving besides his parents are six brothers: Charles, Elton, Dee Oliver, Lois, Lawrence, Weldon, five sisters, Bell Ruby, Novell, Estell, and Dorothy Opal.
