Courthouse Restoration Completed

Ceremonies marking the re-dedication of Ellis County's historic courthouse were held on the Courthouse Square in Waxahachie the weekend of October 4 - 5, 2002.

Some two years ago Ellis County received a $3.6 million grant from the Texas Historical Commission - the only North Texas county to receive such an award for this purpose. Applications were graded on several criteria, including age, use as an operating courthouse and historical significance. Ellis County received the highest score. Other funding was provided through a county bond issue and a federal grant.
