MILLER

Robert Williams   Jun 9, 1998 02:53
I am trying to determine if the following MILLER family was living in either Ellis or McLennan Counties of Texas around 1870-1900: James MILLER, born about 1830-1840 somewhere in Georgia. He married Sally STEVENS, also born about the same time and from somewhere in Georgia. They had the following kids: Olie MILLER (boy or girl?) Maggie MILLER (Margaret?) Emma MILLER Deana MILLER Della MILLER Frances Mary "Fanny" MILLER Johnny MILLER Jimmie MILLER (James Jr.?) Daughter Frances above married Louis WILLIAMS 4 Sep 1894 in Moody, McLennan County, TX. They later had a son Lonnie born in Waco, Ellis County, TX in 1909. So I am wondering if the whole MILLER family was living in that area between 1870-1900, or did Frances just come out there alone from Georgia? This is all the information I have on these folks. If anybody can give me a hand with them, please let me know. Take care, Robert

My gr grandfather, John Chowning George married Rachel Matilda Davis, daughter of Robert Davis in Ellis County in 1866. Family history information found in the Nolan County, Texas history states that several of their children were born in Ellis County, near Waxahachie. However, I can find no land records, either for John Chowning George (or John C. George, or J. C. George) in the Ellis County land records at the Waxahachie courthouse. I have some unsolved questions about a member of my gg-grandparents family. Benjamin F. JAMES, b. Jan. 1873 in TX, d. 1910, was the son of I.L.B. JAMES and Mary Jane HIGGINS, who resided in Ellis Co. by 1900. In that year he was listed on census, single, living with his parents, occupation lawyer. I believe he may have been working in Waxahachie at the time. On the 1910 census, he may have been listed with his brother, James H. JAMES and wife, Nancy A. C. WADE, who lived in the Milford area. The first name is difficult to read, but looks like it could be Benjamin F. However, this man is shown as a farm laborer. Although listed as married 8 years, no wife was listed with him. I am looking for any descendants of my great-grandfather Jacob EDDLEMON. Jacob (born about 1830 in NC) married Mary M. BRAMBLETT (born in 1834 in GA) in 1852 in Forsyth County, Georgia. They had the following children: George H., John W., Nancy, Oliva, Robert, Melia, Sarah C., Mary, and Joseph (all born in Alabama except George H., which was born in Georgia). Around 1860 they moved to Alabama, staying there until Jacob's wife's (Mary M.) death in 1880. Sometime after her death, the family moved to Ellis County, Texas. Jacob's brother Samuel (along with his family) also moved to Ellis County, Texas, probably when Jacob did. Samuel's wife's first name was Callie. Their children were: William T., Eugene S., John T., Cora, Julie, Albert, Eola, Walter D., Annie, and Jacob A. The children were born in Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas. Some of Jacob's and Samuel's children are listed on the 1920 Ellis County census. Even today descendants of both still live in Ellis County, Texas. Pauline Mitchell Pierce   Oct 20, 1998 19:06
Searching for descendents of William L. Mitchell, Sr. and Mary Annie McCulloch (daughter of Alexander McCulloch and Frances Fisher Lenoir McCulloch). Their known children were Samuel McCulloch Mitchell, Thomas Mitchell, Harriet Mitchell m. James Tarrant, Brock Mitchell, William L. Mitchell, Jr., m. 18 Dec 1855 in Ellis Co to Mary Jane Howe (I have the birthdates for their children), Myrah Mitchell, m. unknown Files, Andrew Jackson Mitchell. Andrew "Jack" Mitchell was killed in ca. 1870 during reconstruction. Who did he marry? His wife was in the room when he was shot down. Were there children by this marriage? What was the given name of Myrah's husband. What happened to Brock. He swore revenge on the killers of his brother. I think that most of these children were living in Milford, Ellis Co in ca. 1870. I think that William L. Mitchell, Sr. died in Hill Co., and William L. Mitchell, Jr. lived at one time in Navarro Co. I have lost of McCulloch information that I will be happy to share with others researching these lines.

WILLIAMS, McDONALD

Nancy Carter   Nov 8, 1998 18:25
I am just starting on my WILLIAMS family about whom I know very little. James Buchanan WILLIAMS married Sophronia Jane McDONALD sometime in 1870s. Family story is that he was an Indian Agent and she a full blood Native American. They were married on the reservation, possibly in TN, and moved to Waxahachie, Tex. between 1870 and 1892. One of their children, Nancy Jane, was born there 11-03-1892. When Nancy only 3-4 years old, her mother was doing some washing in a creek, located in a heavily wooded area, was mauled by a bear and died of infection a few days later. Nancy Jane remembers going to the funeral in a wagon and passing through the cemetery's iron overhead gate. This is very little information, but all I have, given to ome by my mother-in-law, almost 90 years old. Does anyone recognize these names or ever hear of the bear incident? Your help is appreciated.

I am currently researching my wife's grandmother's family. Orpha Witherspoon Whitley is in poor health and at an advanced age and has asked me to find info about her family. Her Grandfather was Henry Harrison Witherspoon of Ellis County Texas. She recalls hearing that he served as a scout in the "Ellis County Brigade" during the civil war. She related the story to me that her grandmother burned her husband's uniform (complete with decorations) in their backyard. God only knows why. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Looking for information on parents of Jesse WILLIAMS and Ann MORRIS. Jesse was born ca 1830 in AL. In the 1850 Al Census I have found a Jesse WILLIAMS age 29 with John and Elizabeth WILLIAMS ( both born NC) Ann was born 1848 in AL to John MORRIS. In 1870 Ellis County, Texas census Jesse an are found with their first son John M Williams born in 1869. By the 1880 census they are found in Caldwell County, Texas. In 1900 They are in Hill County, Texas. In the 1870 Ellis County census there is a John MORRIS living near the WILLIAMS. In the 1860 Ellis County Census there is also a John MORRIS the same age as the John MORRIS in 1870, but with another wife and no Ann MORRIS living with them. John and Lizzie MORRIS are buried near Jesse and Ann WILLIAMS in Whitney, Texas. Who are Jesse and Ann's parents? Is ther a marriage record for Jesse and Ann?

Mozley, Moseley, Mosley or Mozeley

Mona L.Herrin   Nov 29, 1998 23:03
I found Margaret Rebeccah Moseley in the Civil War Pension Application. She is the widow of Samuel Bankston Mozley. The story goes that she could not make a pretty "z" so she spelled it with an "s". Samuel Bankston is the son of Samuel Gathright Mozley and Elizabeth Bankston of Campbell Co, Ga. He was born 1832/1832 and died of smallpox with in the CSA March 23, 1865. I would like to hear from the descendents of Samuel B. and Becky Mozley. I have quite a lot a data on the Mozleys. I understand that the desc. spell their names with a "S". Thank you. Mona Herrin

We are searching for Clyde, Margaret, Morris, and Charles Isaiah McGowan. These are the children of P.T. McGowan and ? and were under the age of 21 in 1926. We believe that P.T.'s wife was a Mozley or a Mozley desc. They resided in the Waxahatchie, Eliis Co., Tx. area. Any info on these children would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
