LEE A. STEWART

Lee A. Stewart was most likely born in Shelby Co.,TN somewhere around 1838. He enlisted in the CSA on May 24, 1861. He served in "E" Company, 9th TN Infantry for most of his service. After the war, he moved to Lafayette Co., MS, where he met and married a young widow, Matilda Clementine (Goolsby) Borum. They moved to Little Rock, AR, where Lee got a job with the Memphis and Little Rock railroad as a carpenter. Lee and Matilda had four children: Luther Lee, James Arthur, Mattie B., and Freddie. After Matilda’s death in 1882, Lee returned to Lafayette Co., MS, where, in 1883, he met and married Ida Josephine Dowlen. The family returned to Little Rock, AR. and lived there until 1886 - 1887 when they moved to Holly Springs, MS, where Lee Stewart ran a grocery store for a time.

Around 1896, Lee A. Stewart, and his sons, James Arthur and Stephen Daniel Stewart moved to Texas, settling in Falls County, near the small farming community of Cego, Texas, where Lee’s elder son, Luther, had already established a residence.
