BLANTON TURNS 93 - Leonard - Ila Blanton of Leonard was honored by
family and friends on her 93rd birthday Aug. 27.  The gathering was held in the
home of her nephew and his wife, Blanton and Martha Hancock.  // Miss
Blanton was born in the Blanton Chapel community west of Leonard, in 1898.
Her birthday guests enjoyed listening to her reminiscences of Leonard in the
early 1900's, life on the old Blanton homeplace, friends and neighbors of long
ago and of church revivals.  According to the honoree, the revivals were so
well-attended that all the people could not gather in the Blanton Chapel
Church.  // Miss Blanton has one surviving brother, Lois Blanton, a resident of
the Whitewright Nursing home and one surviving sister, Juanita Hancock of
the Blanton Chapel community.

ILA F. BLANTON
Graveside services for Ila F. Blanton, 100 year-old Leonard resident will be
held at 10 a.m. Friday in Leonard Cemetery.  She died Wednesday, May 26,
1999, at the Fairview Nursing Home in Bonham.  The Rev. David Riley will
officiate.  Surviving are her sister, Juanita Hancock of Leonard; and brother
Lois Blanton of Whitewright.  The family will be at Taylor funeral Home in
Leonard from 7-8 p.m. Thursday.
(Researcher's note:  Most records do not  reveal that Ila was once married and had
a deceased child. She married Dennis Kearney 6-11-1917 in Fannin Co., TX and had a child
born within the next few years.  After the death of the baby Ila divorced Mr. Kearney.
Dorothy Latimer of Leonard, TX recently told me that during the 1980's Ila tried to
find the grave of her long deceased child; however, Ila was unable to find the baby's grave
because the tree the baby had been buried near was no longer standing. The baby is buried
in the Burns Cemetery, Trenton, Fannin Co., TX. The baby was named Bessie May Kearney
