Memories and interesting facts were a part
of the program of the 86 year old Presbyterian Church as it received a
Historical Medallion Plaque. The medallion from the state recognzied the
unique architecture of the 20th century Mission Revival style of the structure.
W.H. Markley of Commerce was awarded the contract for $6,400.00, but that
did not include doors, windows and stoves.
This plaque is a result of documented history of the
church by Eunice Hill and Muriel Burleson.
Alvin Fields, president of Ladonia Historical Preservation
Foundation and Dough Franklin, member of the board shared names of pioneer
families and their descendants and interesting facts.
Some of the data was from information written by a
school teacher at Willow Grove, Miss Molly Stafford. The Presbyterian Church
.....? burned and Miss Molly was asked to write the church history. She
wrote "I'll write them as I remember them". Clave Owens, one of Miss Mollys'
former students was present.
Mr. Alvin Fields presented the plaque to Lazita Pierson,
member of the Fannin County Historical Commission. It was accepted.
Jim and Debbie Crofford attached the medallion to
the structure.
Delicious refreshments were served by Pat Montgomery.
Her family attended the Presbyterian Church. She is a descendent of Sam
Mitchell. He had one of the first blacksmith shops. It was located where
"Mr. B's" is today.
