Ector is located 6
miles west of Bonham
on State Hwy 85 and the Texas & Pacific Railroad. The first train ran
down the Ector-area tracks
on July 4, 1872. D. F. LINTON helped construct the
railroad and remained in the area. He later owned a lumber
yard and grocery store. Ector was established
in 1874 & was first called Victor. But, then the residents
found out there was already a town by that name in
Texas, so an early settler named Hicks Owens suggested
that Victor be renamed to Ector after his son, Ector
Owens.
