want to find family
of
Missouri Sloan Jones
From Debbie
Schafer
I have two photos. I am assuming both are from Dodd City but can't confirm
that. One for sure states "Missouri Sloan Jones" home in Dodd City.
That is the larger of the two homes I am attaching. Missouri died
in 1909 in Dodd City. I have really been working hard to find her decendants.
(She was the sister of my gr gr grandfather). I recently inherited some
great pictures and am anxious to share them and of course fill in some
blanks.
Missouri and her husband William M. Jones are both allegedly buried
in the Shiloh Cemetery, however they are not on any of the cemetery listings.
I do have a copy of her obituary that states she is going to be laid to
rest next to her husband in this cemetery. She was survived by 3
sons, Charles L., Henry, and Pat, and 10 grandchildren (one of whom I know
is Ella Jones who married Earl C. Rowland.
Now I think that Pat was really James Clarence Jones who was a hotel
proprietor in Dodd City in 1900 (according to the census). His wife
was Beulah, and they had children William Marshall and Pauline.
The two house look really similar in the area of the porch. The
lattice (I think that's what you call it) around the top of the porch they
both look the same. Maybe the house was added on to later (an upper floor
and additional rooms.
The woman in both pictures is Missouri. In the picture of the larger
house she is the one closest to the gate dressed all in black. I
am assuming the man in the picture of the smaller house is William Jones.
Perhaps this will trigger someone's memory. I am curious as
the whether the house is still standing (been renovated) or perhaps it
has long since been torn down. I just think it is a wonderful photo.
I am surprised, based on the size of the house for that time period, that
I can find no information on them anywhere, other than the few odds and
ends I found in my great grandmother's belongings. It would seem they were
fairly well to do. Missouri was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church in Fannin Co for over 50 years. Her family (the Sloan's) traveled
across the country starting up various Cumberland Presbyterian Churches.
Her parents were Alexander Carson Sloan and Nancy Caroline McFarland.
Both are buried in the Shiloh Cemetery.
