Located at 400 S.
Center St, this house was built in 1896 by R.P. Rhea and designed by
architect E.H. Silver, of Dallas. Michael and Carrie Spellman bought
the house from Mr. Rhea in 1908. It was originally built as a "gingerbread"
Victorian, but by 1908 the Victorian style was coming to be viewed as
dated and the Spellmans removed the "Gingerbread" trim, replacing
it with Classical Revival elements.
Mick Spellman takes
pride in telling people that he was born in this house. "Right
there in that lower left room," he says!
