Around the turn of the century, downtown Forney went through some dramatic changes. Up until this time, the majority of the businesses faced the railroad tracks, but the trend was moving away from this to other areas of town. In 1901, a fire broke out destroying several businesses close to the tracks. These were never completely rebuilt, and construction headed towards Main and Bois d'Arc streets.

E. Main Street was home to Forney's only movie theater, the Spann Theater. Young people of Forney would often take in both the Saturday matinees as well as the evening shows. On occasion, when playing a horror movie, an employee of the theater would come down the aisles costumed as one of the creepy characters of the movie.

Also on E. Main Street was the City National Bank, the only Forney bank to succumb to the economic stresses of the Great Depression.
